Actor Prabhu’s Son Vikram Prabhu Debut Movie, Sundarapandian actress Lakshmi Menon Second Movie, D.Imman Cinematographer Sukumar, Thambi Ramaiah and Prabhu Solomon’s Combo after the path breaking “Mynaa” had created huge expectation for this Movie. Let us see whether it will satisfy the expectations of a COMMON MAN in this review.

The story revolves around Vikram Prabhu and his elephant that

 he considers as his brother. Kumki is the Elephant which are used to guide wild elephants back to the forest to minimize the destruction of human beings, properties and fields of nearby villages. Vikram Prabhu’s Elephant named Manickam is a very innocent one, but the situations around it makes him as Kumki.

Vikram Prabhu – Since he is “GRANDSON OF SIVAJI”, people will not consider it as his debut movie and will expect more from him. But, he had really done the role perfectly in such a way that no one can say that this is his debut movie. He has to improve and hopefuly he will do it in his future movies.

Lakshmi Menon had got more fans than any other Debutant actress of this year. She definitely deserves the phrase “The Next Door Girl”. She looks very beautiful in this movie and had lived the role. She may get awards for the best debutant of this year.

Thambi Ramaiah, National Award Winning Actor proves once again that he deserves the award. He had got more SCREEN PRESENCE in this movie and have really carried the movie on his own shoulders in the first half. He doesn't only performs the role of a Supporting actor but also takes care of the Comedy department in the movie. Almost, all his dialogues in the movie receive huge applause from the Crowd. This will be one of the best movie in his career.

Real Hero of the movie is Cinematographer Sukumar..Movie is a Visual Treat…He had worked hard on each and every frame and it looks like our desktop Wallpapers. Not only 3D or Sound Effects will bring the Audience back to theatres, but even Excellent Cinematography will bring them to the theatre.

D.Imman is having a wonderful time. His recent movies have assured his place as one of the leading Musician in Tamil Industry. Sollitalae Aval Kadhalae is the best MELODY of this year. It is also Picturized Superbly. All the songs in the movie are too good and his background music really adds more feel to the romantic scenes.

Prabhu Solomon yet again proves that he is one of the best director in our Tamil Cinema with a wonderful movie. It is not easy to take a movie with Elephant and new comers and makes the audience sit in the theatre for 150 minutes, but he had done it quite easily. Story of the movie is just one liner but the screenplay was too good to make the audience engaged in the movie with the help of wonderful locations, awesome music and extraordinary performance by Thambi Ramaiah.

Having said the positives, CLIMAX of the movie will get mixed response. The whole movie travels around with a huge buildup towards the climax and climax really falls flat with poor graphics and it ends abruptly. Graphics used in the Songs and Scenes were extremely good, that one can’t differentiate it. But, Graphics used in the Climax scene was really bad.

Overall, this movie will be liked by all classes of Audience.

This is one of the movie which had to be watched in Theaters to EXPERIENCE THE FEELING OF LOVE with Wonderful locations and Awesome Music.

NEP got released with huge expectations as it is a Romantic Film Directed by Gautham Menon who had given wonderful Romantic movies like Minnalae, VTV to our Tamil Cinema. Ilayaraja Songs were creating sensation among the youth. Few people felt that the songs sounds too old and doesn't create same magic like A.R.R.

in VTV. Santhanam one liners and Movie trailers mentioning “it could be your love story” created huge amount of curiosity among Youngsters. Check out the review to know whether the Movie will satisfy only the Youngsters or even Common Man.

Story of the Movie is nothing new. (Love u, Miss u, Hate u, Leave me, Forgive me) * 4 = NEP. In other words, it is Ilayaraja’s Musical Album with lengthy dialogues in-between which are repetitive.

Jiiva had performed brilliantly as usual and really suits the character in all the roles - school boy, teenager, a youngster and a professional. He had shown variation for each and every role with great care. It is high time that Jiiva gives importance to STORY rather than the Directors.

Samantha really looks like an Angel in most of the scenes especially while wearing Saree. This is the best movie for her till date. Her expressions speak much more than words.

Santhanam is the only saving grace in the movie. Without him, it is difficult for most of the people to watch the movie even once. He comes throughout the movie and his one liners are the major highlights of this movie.

Cinematographer M.S. Prabhu & Om Prakash was good in most of the scenes. They have tried to experiment by keeping lots of wide range shots without cuts in the movie which really irritates the people. Especially, the scene before the interval with long shot will really test the patience of the audience.

Editor Anthony should have cut more scenes in the movie. Most of the scenes were really dragging and looks repetitive. He should have cut the long shot scenes with big dialogues without giving second thought.

Music by Ilayaraja was the USP for this movie. But, the songs are misplaced in the movie and it doesn't go well with the audience. Gautham Menon who had given wonderful platform for Ilayaraja to show his talent and skills once again, let him down by placement of the songs. Ilayaraja is KING OF BACKGROUND MUSIC, but surprisingly he doesn't have much opportunity to show his talent in the movie as most of the scenes are just occupied with lengthy dialogues only.

Gautham Menon had tried to recreate the same magic which he did in VTV. But, completely fails in this one. VTV was a hit because of outstanding music by A.R. Rahman and decent screenplay. It is very hard for any director in the world to just show the love moments for two leading pairs for 154 minutes. He must have believed that Ilayaraja songs alone will save this movie and didn't even bother about the screenplay which doesn't move at all throughout the movie.

Very very slow screenplay, Repetitive Scenes, unnecessarily keeping long shots, songs misplacement will definitely impact the success of this movie

People, who don’t like the songs of this movie, give it a MISS.

It is the movie to be watched with Lover and not with friends.

For Lovers who think they are in deep love and watch the movie along with their lover, Ardent ilayaraja fans, guys who think VTV as the best Romantic movie, Rating would be – 3 / 5

Poda Podi is a Romantic Musical Movie. Film was started in 2008, but due to various issues, it got delayed and was released today.

Story: There are only 4 Characters in the Movie - Simbu, Varalaxmi, VTV Ganesh and yesterday actress Shobana. 90% of the scenes are between Simbu and Varalaxmi only. It is about their love, ego, breakups, reunion, marriage, kid, breakup, reunion and kid again. Does it sounds like Engeyum Kadhal? Yup, the first half was quite similar to Engeyum Kadhal and it look liked Part 2.

Varalaxmi is a very very modern girl who lives in London and follow London's culture. Her ambition is to win Dance Competition as she is a very good Salsa dancer. Simbu, on the other hand, though he lives in London, respects our tamil culture and wants Varalaxmi to follow our culture. Fight starts because of this difference in opinion and it goes on and on testing our patience.

Simbu had done the role with ease as he used to play this kind of role quite often. Movie starts with the song "Love Pannalama" and ends with "I am a Kuthu Dancer". Simbu had danced well in both the songs and those two songs are the highlights of this movie. Simbu had really acted well and tried to carry the movie on his own shoulders.

Varalaxmi is daughter of Actor Sarath kumar. She dances well and comes in glamorous costumes. She looks fat in most of the scenes. Did I mention "most of the scenes"? Yes, both Simbu and Varalaxmi's 
weight differs in the movie as the shooting went on for nearly 3 years. 

VTV Ganesh is the only comedian in the movie. Santhanam and Premji comes for 3 - 4 seconds in "Love Pannalama" Song. VTV Ganesh had tried his best to bring laughter, but it works only occasionally. 

Music is by Dharan who had an excellent debut with Bhagyaraj's Parijatham. He is really talented and didn't get much opportunities. All the songs in the movie will be liked by Youngsters. Love Pannalama and I am a Kuthu Dancer are the best songs in the movie

Director Vignesh, it is debut movie for him. He took a short film based on the same story and made into feature film with the help of Gemini Films and Simbu. He had tried his level best to give a FEEL GOOD Movie to Tamil Audience. But due to very average story and below average screenplay, he couldn't succeed in it.

Which is the truth? Lets see the review as a Common Man.

Story: Vijay is an Army man who comes to his native Mumbai for his vacation. Bomb blasts happen in Mumbai. What Vijay does forms the story of the movie. Story may look simple but screenplay of the movie was handled intelligently. Movie runs for 2 hours and 45 minutes and you will never get bored mostly.

Vijay's Intro Song was "Kutti Puli Kootam"..Though the song was average, Vijay's extraordinary dance moments adds great value to the song.

Vijay looks very Stylish in the movie. He is really BACK with a good movie. He has acted really well. He had underplayed a lot in this movie when compared to his recent movies and that is really great for him. Shankar said that People who doesn't like Vijay also will start liking him after Nanban. I am quite sure that few Vijay fans who changed after his consecutive movies with similar stories will start loving him yet again.

Scenes between Vijay and Kajal are the major highlights of the movie. There is lots of comedy scenes between them and it was really too good. Kajal really looks very beautiful in the movie and had done a wonderful job.

Vidyut is the Villain in this movie. His first movie was Billa 2. His initial scenes resembled Johny in 7 am arivu. He had done a fantabulous job and thereby makes the movie much more interesting as the full movie revolves around him and Vijay only.

Sathyan is the Comedian in the movie. But, Jayaram easily wins the crowd's heart as a Comedian. Each and every scene he comes, there was huge roar in the theater

Fight Scenes in the movie had really come out very well and it is very much believable.

Kutti Puli Kootam: Even Vijay fans were teasing him when 7 am Arivu got released as Velayutham released along with that movie. Vijay fans will be PRAISING him like anything after watching this movie and he truly deserves the credit. What a SCREENPLAY...He has believed in INTELLIGENCE much more than GUN. Instead of Vijay shooting the enemies with Gun, he plans everything cleverly and wins against them.

Music by Harris Jayaraj was very average. But, surprisingly back ground music of this movie was much better than his recent movies. Google Google song was the highlight of the movie and people who watch the movies in first 3 days will not be able to hear the song for sure. Poi Varava was nice melody and it had been placed at right place. Vennilavae Song picturization was good but it was misplaced in the movie.

Santosh Sivan is the 1st cameraman in Asia to get into the elite club of American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) membership. Each and every Indian should be proud of him. What else can I say about him. He has rocked in Cinematography.

Overall ,it is definitely the biggest DIWALI TREAT for Vijay Fans. They will get much more than what they expected from this movie. Vijay fans will watch this movie atleast thrice.

For Common Man, due to wonderful screenplay and Vijay's stylish acting, they will like it.

Red Giant to release Batman

Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Gaint Movies will be distributing the much-awaited movie 'The Dark Knight Rises' of the Batman trilogy.

The Dark Knight Rises is an upcoming 2012 American superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan and the story with David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film is the third installment in Nolan's Batman film series, and is a sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008).

Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman reprise their roles from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The film takes place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight and introduces the characters of Selina Kyle and Bane portrayed by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy, respectively.

Few days back microblogging sites witnessed a small brash in between a Suriya fanatic and ARM Murugadoss. Now KV Anand has diplomatically reacted stating "Vijay - Mass + AR Murugadoss - Class, as a fan I can't wait to watch Thupaki'!

Earlier a Suriya fanatic tweeted AR Murugadoss - "Maatraan going to rule this year... Others just stay away from it... Suriya = Class + Mass". ARM promptly replied to this, "Paappa thalli poi vilayadu" (Kid, go play elsewhere).

'Billa 2' starring Ajith, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Sudanshu Pandey and Vidyut Jamwal in the lead roles is directed by Chakri Toleti and has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film is a prequel to blockbuster 'Billa' and will unravel the events that led to David, an Eelam refugee, becoming a dreaded don.

Dhansika joins Sivakarthikeyan's Ethir Neechal!

Dhansika will be seen in Sivakarthikeyan's Ethir Neechal as the second female lead. While Sivakarthikeyan and Priya Anand play the lead roles, Dhansika will be seen as a coach who trains Sivakarthikeyan.

The film is produced by Dhanush who worked with Siva in '3' and shares a good rapport with the star. It's a flick on sports and is loaded with comedy. Sivakarthikeyan is said to play an athlete.

Directed by Vetrimaaran's former assistant Senthil, Ethir Neechal has music by Anirudh.

T Siva directs Prakashraj, Meena

Popular producer T Siva is a director now. He has wielded the megaphone for a television commercial, featuring Prakash Raj and Meena in lead roles.
 
The one minute advertisement has music by Sathya of 'Engeyum Eppodhum' fame. A song was there and lyrics were penned by Vairamuthu. Cinematography was by Priyan.
 
Says Siva, "I always have an affinity towards advertisements. One of my friends who came to know about this gave me the opportunity to direct this ad film. It is for a realty company called Evocon."
 
Stating that he may direct a movie soon, Siva says, "But it requires a lot of hard work. This commercial may be a prelude to my directorial aspirations."

Nayanthara turns assistant director

If you think Nayantara is only acting in Ajith's forthcoming film, directed by Vishnuvardhan, it is time to change your opinion. For the actress is also an assistant director of the project.

"Nayan is learning the nuances of film making by assisting Vishnuvardhan. She was so observant and has been adding value to the team as an assistant director," sources say.

It is said that Vishnuvardhan was happy with the assistance provided by the actress, who had earlier worked with him in 'Billa'. Even Ajith is happy to see Nayan's enthusiasm, it is said.

The film, which is yet to have a title, has Ajith, Nayan, Arya and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. Touted as an action adventure, it is taking shape fast in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Prabhu acts with Amitabh

Prabhu has shared the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan for a television commercial shot for a jewellery group. The 'Ilaya Thilakam' is happy for having worked with the 'Big B' of Bollywood.

"Amitabh knows me from the days when I was a small boy. Whenever I meet him, he would tell me an interesting trivia about appa (thespian Sivaji Ganesan). I was so happy to stand in front of the camera with him," Prabhu says.

Prabhu's son Vikram Prabhu, who is all set to make his acting foray with Prabhu Solomon directed 'Kumki', accompanied his father to Mumbai for the ad shoot, and sought the blessings of Amitabh.

The commercial was shot in four languages- Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. While Amitabh acted in all the four versions, those worked with him in the respective languages were Prabhu, Nagarjuna, Sivarajkumar and Dileep.

Rajini is like a kid: Deepika

Everyone in the industry has something to admire aboutRajinikanth. And for Deepika Padukone, the heroine of the Superstar's next venture 'Kochadaiyaan', it is the Thalaivar's enthusiasm that has garnered her attention.

"The energy and enthusiasm Rajini gets when the director says 'action' is stunning. He is like a child. I had not seen such bubbliness in any other actor," says the Bollywood diva.

"Rajini never misses a chance to encourage someone when they deliver good work. Even though the director is his daughter, he treated himself as a thorough professional," adds Deepika.

On 'Kochadaiyaan', she says, "Director Soundarya R Ashwin has shaped up the movie very well. State of the art techniques are being used since the film is made using performance capturing technology."

'Maatraan' rocking trailer! Suriya as conjoined twins

t's official now. Suriya is playing conjoined twins in his upcoming film 'Maatraan', directed by K V Anand. The first look and teasers of the film, which were released on Wednesday, have become huge hits within hours.

Says KV Anand, "Vimalan and Akilan were the names of the characters Suriya is doing in this movie. They are conjoined twins, and hence, two heads, four hands, four legs, but one body."

Giving more details, he says, "Though they are twins, the attitude of Vimalan and Akilan are totally different. While the former is a good boy, the latter is a playboy."

The director adds: "It was a tough challenge to make this movie. Suriya has really worked hard. For Maatraan, he has put efforts required to act in three films. I hope the flick will be liked by one and all."

- As expected the story about on How the Refugee turning out as a Don. The first few minutes of the movie touching the srilkan refugee issue which is really gonna create a impact among tamilians and gonna create a new market for Ajit in NRI Area
- Its really gonna be a electrifying for fans whenever Ajith appearing in a screen. As usual Ajith carried himself superbly throughout the film. Especially the stunt sequences are rocking.
- Except 2 songs rest of the songs photography is average (when comparing to Bill I)
- This film really gonna take Ajith to next level in his career. Once again this movie expected to break all the collections of Kollywood.
- Like Mangatha for VP, For Chakri this gonna create a good place in Tamil Cinema
- Technically the film is outstanding.
- Finally this film is not only a treat for Ajith fans but also for Tamil Cinema Lovers. For the persons whoever booked the tickets in advance, it wont disappoint you for sure.

'Naan Ee' pirated VCDs seized in Tamil Nadu!

Piracy and films go hand in hand, bitter truth about world cinema. Just as a film makes it to the big screen its pirated copy hits the market simultaneously!
 
Tamil cinema's latest release 'Naan Ee' that released last week and is running to packed theatres is fighting this evil quite hard. Video anti piracy wing inspector Rajashekar and sub inspector Bhuvaneshwari raided the Burma Bazaar in Chennai yesterday and seized 500 Naan Ee VCDs along with several other films' copies.
 
Nagaraj and Ravi were arrested, produced before the magistrate and have been jailed in Puzhal. In St. Thomas Mount, Anbu, Ezhumalai and Amanullah were arrested and nearly 2000 copies were seized from them! In Anna Nagar Arch, Kuppusamy of Nethaji Nagar was arrested and 700 copies were seized from him!
 
The authorities have it that the raids will continue in different parts of Chennai in the next few days as well.

"I didn't shoot even a single day for Kadal to walk out of it! We were supposed to shoot in Andamans but I was down with an immunity disorder that affected my skin and brought everything to a standstill. My June, July dates were for Kadal following which I planned to finish my Telugu films thus I couldn't postpone the film. Mani Ratnam was really kind to understand my situation".
 
"Due to the same I couldn't join Shankar's film either. I couldn't help it. And there's no iota of truth in me being launched by Prabhu Deva in his Bollywood film", she further adds.

Taapsee Pannu has cleared the air on a buzz that she was the reason behind the fight between Mahath and Manchu Manoj.
 
In a statement, the 'Aadukalam' girl said, "First of all I was in Kurnool for my work when the whole incident took place so I was practically nowhere near the incident. The allegation on me is totally false. I know Mohan Babu uncle, Lakshmi, Vishnu and Manoj from the day I have entered the industry and they are a very important reason behind me being where I am today".
 
She said: "They have treated & protected me like a family member from day 1 till date & I can never be enough thankful for that. Mahath, Manoj bury hatchet

After hitting the news columns for the past few days, actors Mahath and Manchu Manoj seem to have decided to put an end to their tussle. 
 
In a statement, 'Mankatha' fame Mahath said, "I wish to inform all the press and friends that the misunderstanding that had happened between me and Mr. Manoj Manchu has been solved amicably. Mr. Manoj Manchu and we go long back in time as good friends. I am glad that the issue has been resolved and we continue to be good friends. I would like to thank the press for their extended support; it means a lot!"
 
Manoj Manchu said in his statement, "Unfortunately, I have come to hear of some rumors being spread around about our so called "fight", both in the media as well as in the social circles, which is causing deep hurt to both of us. In fact, Mahath is hurt reading these reports and I have to apologize for the agony caused. We continue to be very good friends. We also wish this clear the air."
 
It may be recalled that Mahat lodged a police complaint against Manoj, stating that the latter had assaulted him. Even as it was being claimed that Taapsee was the reason behind their fight, the actress issued a statement to the media on Tuesday, distancing herself from the issue.

Ilayaraja's family album

The entire family of Ilayaraja, including the maestro, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Venkat Prabhu and Premgi Amaran have rendered songs in 'Veyilodu Vilayadu'. The film has music by Karthik Raja, the elder son of the 'Isaignani'.
 
For the song which was crooned by Ilayaraja, he himself has penned the lyrics, it is said. "Music will be the one of the major highlights of the movie," say sources.
 
Besides Karthik Raja, 'Veyilodu Vilayadu' also marks the comeback of Mahesh and Tananya, who made their debuts with 'Angadi Theru' and 'Kungumapoovum Konjum Puravum', both critically acclaimed movies.
 
The movie, which is said to be a realistic portrayal of love and other emotions, is directed by debutant Ramkumar. Attempts are on to release 'Veyilodu Vilayadu' soon.

Samantha plays Suriya's lady love?

The director in Lingusamy is getting ready to entertain the audience. The filmmaker, whose last venture was 'Vettai', is planning to team up with Suriya for his next project, it is learnt.
 
"The yet to be titled flick will be produced by Lingusamy's own banner Tirupathi Brothers. It will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography by Nirav Shah," say sources.
 
The highlight is that the movie is expected to bring togetherSamantha with Suriya for the first time. "Now that the actress is getting well from skin ailment, she is on a signing spree."
 
"Lingusamy is currently busy with the script work. He will make an official announcement only after he is done with the script," sources add.

Vishal plays Sakthi in Samar

Vishal is playing Sakthi, a trekking guide in Ooty, in his forthcoming film 'Samar'. The movie has brought together the actor and his 'Theeradha Vilayattu Pillai' director Thiru for the second time.
 
"The story revolves around Sakthi who goes to Bangkok on a personal work but realizes on reaching that someone is operating without his knowledge in there," says Thiru. He adds: "Soon Sakthi comes to know that a plot has been woven around him. How he comes out successfully from testing situations forms the crux of the story."
 
Trisha and Sunaina play leading ladies of the movie. "The name of Trisha's character is Maya. She plays a Tamil girl who lives abroad. Sunaina plays Roopa, a resident of Ooty," the director adds.

'Billa 2' next to Endhiran in the USA!

The expectations for Billa 2 in USA are huge and exhibitors are all excited to bring the biggest release of 2012. Even in the last minute the distributors are adding locations. In spite of Spiderman, Ice Age and Eega taking up lots of theaters, Billa 2 is able to get 60 screens and there are many more coming in!
 
This is next to Endhiran which released in over 85 screens! 7aum Arivu released in 57 screens, Nanban in 50 screens. Ajith's previous mega hit Mankatha was opened in 34 locations.
 
Billa 2 is releasing in 29 states, premieres on Thursday (July 12) night in 35 screens (largest screen count for premiere shows, next only to Endhiran) and overall opening in 60 locations this weekend!
 
ATMUS Entertainment is distributing the movie in USA in association with the overseas rights holder GK Media. Watch this space for showtimes.
